I'm a member of the Approved Driving Instructors National Joint Council (ADINJC) and I align with their terms and conditions along with the ADI code of practice.
Please read and acknowledge your agreement with my terms and conditions.
Terms and Conditions.
Acknowledgement by a text message, or email from you is required before lessons commence.
Driving Lessons are for 2 hours. However, the duration may vary from time to time. I will try to give at least 7 days notice of any change.
I will call you and discuss your wishes, expectations and lesson options regarding times of lessons and timescales for your test. I hope we can align, though it may not always be the case.
Lessons are formal, structured and organised, planned in advance in discussion and agreement with you and follow DVSA guidelines.
The standards of behaviour in an office and workplace are adhered to.
Bullying or disrespectful behaviour towards anyone is not tolerated. Clearly, personalities may not always be compatible and rarely, instructor and student may disagree. Politeness and respect is given towards you as a gratefully respected student and appreciated in return.
Messages, by phone or otherwise are not responded to outside of normal business hours.
All lessons must be paid for at least 48 hours in advance.
Cancellation of learner driver lessons with less than 48 hours notice will incur your normal driver lesson charge per lesson. You are liable to lose any prior lesson price arrangement and align with the current published fee, depending upon frequency and reliability of your attendance.
I’ll exclude certain geographical areas, due to any road and traffic features that I believe may be a cause of serious danger to any person during driving lessons. Learner drivers’ safety and that of others is paramount.
Please see my opening hours and I do not ever provide service for the driving test at weekends.

The Driving Test.
During your driving test the standard must be consistently safe and competent throughout.
Please read the following link provided by the DVSA closely. It directly affects your practical driving test opportunities:
https://readytopass.campaign.gov.uk/?utm_source=govuk&utm_medium=inline-link&utm_campaign=top-10-failures&utm_content=cta
A candidate should only be presented for test when the ADI is satisfied they can drive independently, in a range of weather, light and road conditions, safely.
It is very important that you are fully prepared to take your test.
- I decline acceptance of new customers for the Practical Driving Test booked at short notice who have been receiving driving lessons from another driving instructor.
- I will not accept a candidate who is simultaneously receiving driving lessons from another driving instructor.*
- Should you miss more than two weeks’ lessons in a row, your space may be re-allocated to another learner driver.
- If you wish to take your practical driving test through my driving school, I request that you have a minimum of 5 regular lessons within five weeks, before your test.
- I reserve the right to decide when you possess the level of road sense, practical knowledge and driving skills necessary to safely be a candidate in the practical driving test.
- You are independently responsible for your own driving test experience, including the result.
- The tuition vehicle that is used for driving lessons is (via BSM driving school) my own personal property and is essential in my day to day business. It is very important that due care be afforded to this vital asset.
- I ask that you participate in a two hour summative assessment for your driving test at least 21 days beforehand, during which you’ll be evaluated.
- In the light of any summative or formative evaluation, or in the course of coaching, at any point (due to risk of harm to you or any other person or property), including on the day of your driving test, I may decline the use of my BSM driving school tuition vehicle for your driving test.
- You may lose your DVSA test fee if I tell you that you are not ready for your test and I am under no obligation to take you to your test. In such circumstances I will advise you of the next steps necessary to become test ready.
- A written paper record of your progress, including the number of lessons provided is maintained. You may take this away with you at any time. You’ll be kept aware of your progress and your training requirements, to help you achieve your learner driver goals.
- Test bookings will not be accepted without proof of the booking, e.g. a screen shot or a copy of the booking.
- Test bookings outside the published opening hours of David Barter Driving School will incur an extra normal hour’s lesson fee.
- Test bookings are a minimum of a 2.5-hour lesson.
- To summarise, I want you to pass first time, safely and enjoy the great day that you achieve this. I also wish to consider, as any parent does … would I trust you to drive a car, unsupervised and alone, or with your parents, grandparents, relatives or friends?
- If, sadly not, unfortunately, I wouldn’t trust you to be safe throughout your driving test with an independent DVSA driving examiner in the car.
- Therefore, in such circumstances, I would not allow you to go through your driving test in my AA Driving School vehicle, until you have had sufficient practice to become ready for your driving test.

I will not book your Theory Test, or Practical Driving Test.
